Lloyd Stevenson Carbon Fibre Sports Fishing Boat Matuku

Project OVERVIEW

The Matuku project was a custom-built 18m Artnautica 60 Sportfisher constructed by Lloyd Stevenson Boatbuilders for a New Zealand owner seeking the perfect balance of luxury cruising, offshore fishing performance, and long-range efficiency. Built entirely from carbon fibre to minimise weight and maximise fuel economy, the vessel combines innovative engineering with bespoke craftsmanship.

Marine Air Flow International supplied the engine room ventilation equipment for the project, including marine air intake grilles, high-volume fans, and fan finger guard protection systems, helping support reliable airflow and engine room performance aboard this highly advanced custom vessel.

Project GOALS

The project required careful consideration across every onboard system, including engine room airflow management. Effective ventilation plays a critical role in maintaining engine performance, controlling heat build-up, and ensuring long-term reliability in high-performance vessels operating offshore.

The CHALLENGE

Constructed entirely from carbon fibre, Matuku was designed to minimise weight while maximising efficiency and performance. This lightweight approach allowed the vessel to utilise twin Volvo Penta D11 IPS 800 engines producing 625hp each, delivering impressive fuel efficiency alongside speeds exceeding 30 knots

The SOLUTION

To support the vessel’s high-performance engine room requirements, Marine Air Flow International supplied a complete ventilation package including custom marine air intake grilles, high-volume engine room fans, and protective finger guard systems for the fans.

The ventilation system was designed to provide reliable airflow while complementing the lightweight, performance-focused engineering philosophy behind the build.
