Questions We Are Often Asked
Hopefully we have answered all the commonly asked questions here. If not please feel free to get in touch and we can assist you further.
General Information
What is your lead time
For smaller projects we can often fit them in within 10-14 days. Larger projects is usually a lead time of 4-6 weeks. Please Get In Touch first to be sure.
Where are you situated
We have a factory on the Gold Coast in Australia, however we ship globally and have delivered projects to the UAE, Singapore, USA, Muaritius, Türkiye and even Iceland.
What are your opening hours
We run a 4 day week from Monday through Thursday Australian time. Please feel free to contact us outside of those hours, however be aware we are very protective of our 4 days week so please don't expect a response until our next business day.
Do you install your systems?
Our systems are shipped globally so no, we do not do installations. Full installation instructions are supplied so you can install them yourself. Or you could commission a local trades person to do so. They are relatively simple to install.
Freight Information
Where do you freight to?
We can freight to almost anywhere you like. You can find Marine Air Flow products in places like Dubai, Alaska, Tasmania, Philippines, Iceland & the USA
Is freight included in my quote?
Usually yes. Many companies like to use their own freight forwarders, so we can quote on freight to your door, or you can arrange pick up from our Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia factory. All our products can be packed securely for freight if it is required.
How long does freight take?
This is of course wildly dependant on where you are and what type of freight you are looking at. Obviously, air freight is super fast, but also usually quite expensive. Let us know your delivery timeframe before we quote and we will work it through with you.
How is my item packaged
Smaller fans and the like are wrapped in protective wrap and then sent on in airbags.
Larger projects which include grilles or dampers are packaged in tough cardboard boxes, wrapped and secured very well.
Air Intake Grille Questions
What Size and Shape Do They Come?
The grilles are custom built to suit your application and can be almost any shape or size. We do have stock sizes so feel free to contact us about our stock sizes and shapes.
How Fast Can I Get One?
The normal supply time is 4 -6 weeks from placement of order, although an express service is available at an extra cost (approx 10%).
How much does a grille cost?
Grilles can be supplied for as little as $1500.00 + gst. A small investment to protect your engine room and its equipment, however please be aware that it is very rare that we supply only grilles.
In most situations you will find that you also need at the very least engine room fans to ensure the best operating conditions.
What maintenance Is required for my grille?
Simply hose off with fresh water at the end of the days operation. A weekly wash with warm soapy water is recommended.
How long do the grilles last?
With the correct maintenance, the grille will last (at the minimum) the life of your engine. We have had intake grilles that are still in onperation after 15+ years.
How many and what size do I need?
By supplying some simple information to us, we can calculate your exact requirements. This can be done through completing a form on our website or by chatting to us.
Can I paint them?
The grille can be supplied powder coated to a wide range of colours of your choice. We don't recommend painting them.
Damper Questions
What size and shape do dampers come?
We have stainless steel dampers ranging in size from 200x200x100 to 850x850x100. Check our SS Damper page for current sizes.
A60 Dampers can be customised to size in most cases. Get In Touch and we can give you a quote for this.
Do your dampers meet code?
Our Stainless Steel Dampers meet NSCV and USL code, and the A60 Dampers meet Meets A-0, A-15, A-30 and A-60 classes.
They are USCG Approved , SOLAS Compliant & Lloyds Register Certified to IMO Fire Test Procedures
How much does a damper cost?
Our stainless steel dampers start at $1390 + gst up to $2990 + gst for the 850x850x100 size.
A60 Dampers start at $2555 USD and go up from there.
How long do the dampers last?
A60 dampers are Corrosion Tested - EN60068-2-52 severity 2 conditions &
Vibration Tested – EN60068-2-6 (5Hz to 350Hz @2g) so should last at least 5 years+
Our stainless dampers should see the same lifetime.
How do they trigger?
We have a manutal pull ring control or a semi automated control which is a synthetic cable that will melt and trigger the damper automatically.
We can also supply an automated actuator which iwll also trip with the power supply turned off. Chat to us about what is best for your situation.
Can I paint them?
No. Dampers must remain in their supplied state for fire reasons.
Marine Fan Questions
What sort of fans do you have?
How long is a piece of string? We have many variations of AC and DC compact and high volume fans. Check out our main Marine Fans page for links to more info on each type.
Do I need an electrician to install the fans?
For our high volume fans, yes you will. For our smaller compact fans you may be able to plug and play if you already run wiriing. This is something you would have to assess on a case by case basis.
Are the fans loud?
Fans can be yes, however if this is a concern we have fan speed controllers which can adjust the speed (and associated noise) for times when you would like or need a quieter situation.
Are your fans marinised?
Yes, all our fans have fully marinised motors. They vary fan to fan so talk to us about your requirements before ordering.
Do they come in 12 or 24 volt?
Most of our fans can be supplied in either 12 or 24 volt. We do also have some 240V fans for larger applications.
What colours do they come in?
Our smaller axial or compact fans are primarily black, where as our high volume fans have aluminium housings which can be supplied as is or powdercoated to your colour match.
Payment Questions
What are your payment terms?
As all our products are manufactured for each order, we do require 50% deposit before we commence work on your project. The remainder is payable prior to dispatch.
We will let you know with a few days to a few weeks when your project is coming up for dispatch so you can make the payment in time.
NB: Remitance advices do not constitute payment. We must have the funds in our account before we consider a project paid for.
How can I pay for my project?
For Australian domestic orders we will supply you our banking information and a credit card link with your quote.
We do not accept credit card payments for international orders. We do supply the appropriate SWIFT codes for international payments.
I don't want to pay for something I haven't seen. How can I get around that?
We are more than happy to facilitate a visit from one of your representatives to our factory to view your project either in development, or upon completion. Alternatively we can sms or email photo's of your project prior to packaging, or ready for shipping if you would like.
I'm a boat builder can I negotiate on payment terms?
We do not offer accounts of any type and as per our payment terms question above, all orders must be paid in full prior to dispatch from our factory.
As our product is almost always custom produced, we do not run accounts for anyone. If you are enquiring about a run of boats or equipment in set sizes, please get in touch and we will be happy to chat about payment plans.
Do I have to pay tax on my purchase?
Yes. Australia has a 10% gst tax on all manufactured goods.
If you are an international company (Non Australian operators) we can remove the GST for export sales.
